How to View a Computer Hard Drive

It can be difficult to find information such as music files, videos or text files on a large hard drive. To find a file, you need to know how to view your computer's hard drive.

Instructions

1. Click "Start" located at the bottom left corner of your Windows operating system.

2. Click on the link for "My Computer."

3. Find the hard drive you would like to view. These drives are assigned letters such as "D:" and "E:," among others. Hard drives may also be named, such as "Jane's Hard Drive (D:)" or "Acer (F:)."

4. Double click the hard drive to launch its contents. You can also right click on the drive you want to open and choose "Explore" or "Open."

5. Search the drive without opening it by right clicking on the drive and choosing the "Search" option. This will launch a window where you can search by name of file type.

• Use the Windows Search function to search all of your computer drives at once.
