Golf head covers can be made at home for a fraction of the cost of expensive purchased covers. Sewing versatile covers that can work for putters and irons will save money and time when it comes to finding the right cover for the right club. Sewing golf head covers that will fit up to a 460 CC driver permits the golfer to use the covers interchangeably with assorted golf clubs. With moderate sewing skills, the creation of golf head covers is a practical project.
Step 1
Measure 1 inch down from the elastic cuff of the black sock. Cut straight across the flattened sock on the smooth, nonribbed part of the sock.

Step 2
Pin together two fabric rectangles with the 8-inch edges together, right sides of the fabric touching. Straight-stitch the rectangles with a 1-inch seam allowance along the 8-inch pinned edges. Remove the pins. Repeat this step with the other two fabric rectangles.
Step 3
Unfold the two sets of sewn-together rectangles, and place one sewn set on top of the other sewn set, with the right sides of the fabric touching. Pin the left and right 8-inch edges. Straight-stitch the left and right edges with a 1-inch seam allowance. Remove the pins. You now have a four-sided "tube."
Step 4
Pick one end of the tube to be the "top." Pin the 4-by-4-inch square to the top of the four-sided tube by joining the right sides of the fabric together along the top edges. Straight-stitch the four sides of the square to the four sides of the tube with a 1-inch seam allowance, removing pins as you sew. The result is an inside-out fabric "box" with one open end.
Step 5
Turn the ribbed cuff of the youth tube sock inside out. Pin the cut edges to the open end of the fabric box, with the right sides of the fabric touching.
Step 6
Straight-stitch the cut, raw edges of the ribbed sock cuff to the open end of the fabric box with a 1-inch seam allowance, with the right sides of the fabric touching. Remove the pins.
Step 7
Turn the golf head cover right side out to reveal a fabric box with a ribbed, elastic cuff. Pull the fabric box over the golf head, with the cuff cinching the handle of the club.
