Making a bandana sundress is a fairly easy craft to make with some leftover bandanas. They're adorable on little girls and great for picnics or to wear out on a hot summer day. With just two bandanas and some ribbon, you can make a bandana sundress for your little loved one to wear this summer in a matter of minutes.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Fold 1/2 inch of one edge of one bandana, and press it using the iron on the "cotton" setting. Fold down the edge of the bandana again by 1 inch. Press it using the iron.

  2. Step 2

Pin the folded edge and use the sewing machine to sew a line of stitching along the fold. Leave the two ends open, so you have a kind of tube. This is where the ribbon will go.

  3. Step 3

Repeat Steps 1 and 2 on the other bandana.

  4. Step 4

Line up the two bandanas with printed sides facing. Measure about 4 inches down from the seam line you just created. This will be the arm hole. Pin from that mark down to the bottom of the side. Repeat with the other side. Use the sewing machine to stitch both sides with a 5/8-inch seam allowance, making sure to backstitch at both ends.

  5. Step 5

Cut the 2 feet of ribbon in half, and thread one piece of ribbon through each of the tubes you created. This will be easier if you attach a large safety pin to the end of the ribbon first. Use it to pull the ribbon through the tube, making sure you don't lose the other end inside the tube.

  6. Step 6

Place the dress on your little one, and tie the ribbon at the shoulders. Your bandana sun dress is now complete.

Tips & Warnings
  • Bandanas come in all shapes and sizes. For an adult version, you can use the same pattern, but use larger bandanas or several bandanas sewn together to create front and back panels. Sew the bandanas together first, and create the tube for the ribbon after you have the front and back panels created.
