Trying to clean house but can't do a thorough job because the old grandfather clock is in the way? Need to move your precious grandfather clock across town, but not sure how you can do it without causing damage? No need to fear. By following a few simple steps, you can move your grandfather clock with ease.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft gloves
  • Soft cloth padding
  • Cardboard strip
  • Tape
  • Soft blanket
  1. Step 1

Open glass casing that contains pendulum and weights. Put on soft gloves before handling brass pendulum and weights.

  2. Step 2

Remove pendulum by carefully taking it off of suspension spring that holds it in place. Wrap pendulum in soft cloth padding for protection.

  3. Step 3

Remove each weight from pulleys inside glass casing. Label each weight to ensure they are distinguishable since weights generally will not weigh the same. Wrap weights in soft cloth padding for protection.

  4. Step 4

Insert cardboard behind loose chains that weights were removed from. Tape each chain to the cardboard strip to ensure they do not become entangled during move.

  5. Step 5

Wrap grandfather clock in soft blanket or other padded material if it is to be transported. Clock is ready for transport.

  6. Step 6

Reassemble grandfather clock by reattaching pendulum. Reattach weights in their proper position. Remove cardboard strip from chains.

  7. Step 7

    Start pendulum swinging.

Tips & Warnings
  • The grandfather clock should never be transported on it's side or face down. It is best transported on it's back to prevent damage during a move.
