The purpose of waxing your floors is to protect them and make them shine. When too much wax is used, the exact opposite result occurs: dull floors that look as though there is a film on them. Removing excess wax buildup is an easy task that requires only a little more than some elbow grease. In only a minimal amount of time, overwaxed floors can be restored to their previous state.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vinegar
  • Mop
  • Soft clean cloth
  1. Step 1

Sweep the floors to remove any loose dirt or debris. It may also help to use a dust mop to ensure that all of the dust is gone.

  2. Step 2

Add a cup of white vinegar to a bucket of warm water and mix well.

  3. Step 3

Mop the floor with the solution. Use a clean cloth dipped in the solution for particularly bad areas.

  4. Step 4

Allow the floor to dry completely.

  5. Step 5

Mop again using the solution. If the old solution is dirty and the water is cloudy, pour it out and mix some new solution.

  6. Step 6

Rinse the floor by dipping the mop in clear water and mopping again after the floor is dry to remove any residue.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ammonia is also great at removing wax buildup.
