Cleaning steel in a dishwasher is not very different from cleaning other dishes. It does require a little more attention to the type of soap you use and the settings on your dishwasher, as well as the other dishes you place in the dishwasher with the steel. You can clean your steel dishes and utensils this way, and you can also wash other steel items, such as tools.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Place the steel dishes or utensils into the dishwasher racks. It is OK to place other dishes, such as metal or thick glass, in the dishwasher also. Do not place plastic with these dishes, because the hot setting you need to clean the steel may melt or warp the plastic. Also, do not add fragile glass such as wine glasses, as they could break. If possible, just wash the steel utensils or dishes in the dishwasher alone with nothing else in it.

  2. Step 2

Fill the detergent into the compartment. Place a small bowl filled with white vinegar carefully in the top rack of the dishwasher. This will help sterilize and clean the steel even better than the detergent.

  3. Step 3

Close and lock the dishwasher. Set it to hot water and heat dry settings on the dishwasher panel so you can thoroughly get the benefits of the hot water and vinegar.

  4. Step 4

Let the steel dry completely before opening the dishwasher and removing the dishes or utensils.

Tips & Warnings
  • Scrub or rinse off the steel dishes or utensils before placing them into the dishwasher.
