Tips on having a successful booth sale for Girl Scout Cookies.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Leader
  • Cookies
  • Some planning
  1. Step 1

Leader often find they are stuck with left over cookies. A booth sale is a way to get rid of those extra cookies. With a little pre planning it can be a successful cookie sale

Get permission from a local store. The store should be one that the leader would feel safe and comfortable standing in front of. After all the girls safety is top priority. Ask the store or place of business if there is anything they many need from you to be able to sell cookies in front of their store. It may just be a letter of something more that you must obtain from you local council

  2. Step 2

Inform you local council of this booth sale. With the program Girls Scouts now has in place it could help increase sales. They can also tell you the rule for selling cookies as some troop levels are not allowed to do booth sales.

If there are a lot of girls in the troop a leader may want to organize shift so that each one has an opportunity to sell cookies. The manager will not be happy having a crowed of girls standing or hanging out in front of the store blocking door. The girls are there to sell cookies and should want to participate. Don’t forget permission slips from the parent that allows the girls to be there.

  3. Step 3

When the day arrives for the booth sale, go into the store and greet the manger on duty. Tell him that you are there and ask if there is any special place they would like you to set up. Be sure to bring you own supplies.

Set up your table in the area indicated by the manager. The table does not have to be big; a card table with folding legs will do with a couple of chairs. Cover the table with a piece of fabric or table cloth. You can hide thing under the table and still have a neat appearance.

  4. Step 4

Display the cookies. There isn’t a need to put them all on the table. Just put out a box or two of each kind that you are selling. Replenish the ones that sold form the stash under the table. On the table should be a list of the flavor and the price. It may also be a good idea to but a list of prices for buying one, two, three etc. . This will save time having the girls figuring it out. Also include on the table the community # and troop #. If a customer has a comment or a problem with the cookies they can contact the local council with this information. Do not include the girls’ names this is for their protection. Have a Goal Getter card available. Orders can be taken when cookies run out. Some people want to support Girl Scout put don’t want the cookies. Tell them you will donate a box to the local food panty. Have a box to put these in and drop them off on your way home.

A cash box or sealable container should be used to make change from. This container should be kept in a discreet place where it can be watched at all times. It’s terrible to think of but, people will walk away with anything not nailed down. Make sure you have plenty of change. When the day comes to an end pack your things up put them in the car and go into the store and thank the manager and let him know that you are leaving. You may also wish to follow up with a thank you letter.
