Sometimes when you're dieting, your cravings for your favorite sweets become even stronger. So what do you do when you're a chocolate lover and you find yourself in a moment of weakness? I'll tell you how to indulge without sabotaging your diet.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A little pocket money
  1. Step 1

First of all, it's a really good idea to give yourself some wiggle room when you're on a diet. Otherwise, you could totally lose self control and binge. So let yourself have at least one treat a week, of any kind. With weekly treats, such as candy, burgers, or even cocktails, you'll have the ability to follow your diet and eat healthy the majority of the time.

  2. Step 2

If chocolate sounds wonderful, I can give you some stipulations that can help you satisfy your craving and not go totally wild. If you need chocolate, here are some great ways to choose something that won't be too damaging...

  3. Step 3

Choose dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is not only less harmful than milk chocolate, it's actually good for you! Do some research on this and you'll learn all about the helpful properties of the cacao bean which chocolate is made of. There is a higher concentration of these properties in dark chocolate.

  4. Step 4

Don't supersize it! Don't King Size it. And actually, avoid large bags of bite sized candy as well. You don't want a lot of it in the house. Just get enough for one serving. One candy bar, one cupcake, one serving of whatever your favorite chocolate dessert is.

  5. Step 5

Try having chocolate on hand. Have one emergency stash of chocolate hidden in a compartment in the refridgerator.

  6. Step 6

Choose a chocolate dessert with as few ingredients as possible. If you must have something with bells and whistles, Snickers bars aren't too bad for you. Not compared to other treats such as Butterfingers, which are loaded with nothing but sugar.

  7. Step 7

DO NOT bake anything chocolate in your home. If you have an entire pan of something just sitting there, and you know you have self-control problems, it could spell big trouble.

  8. Step 8

If you're going to indulge, do it with chocolate that you can bite down on and chew. Hot chocolate or other drinkable forms of chocolate won't satisfy your craving as well, meaning you could drink more of it. So go ahead and have something to eat made of, or containing chocolate instead of drinking the calories.

  9. Step 9

Don't feel guilty! Have some chocolate, enjoy it, and move on. Kicking yourself doesn't burn calories. It's OKAY. Food was made for enjoying and dieting shouldn't take all that enjoyment away.

Tips & Warnings
  • The purer the form of chocolate, the healthier.

on 5/3/2009 oops, apparently ampersands kill comments. What I meant to say was I like M and M's cuz you know on a diet you're going to wolf down a chocolate bar cuz you haven't had one in forever but if you get a bag of M and M's you'll be forced to eat them pretty slowly and make it last much longer :-D
