How to Make a Band Aid

If you have a minor cut that needs a band-aid, but don't have a band-aid handy, it's easy enough to make your own.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, you'll need something to make the pad of the band-aid to go over the cut. Sterile gauze is ideal, but any small square of soft cloth will do if necessary. Pick something that's as sanitary as possible, and cut one or two layers to the size you need to cover the injury. If you have antibiotic ointment or even alcohol or hand sanitizer, you can use that on an unsterile cloth.

  2. Step 2

Next, you need something to hold it on. First-aid tape is ideal, but if you had that, you might have a band-aid! Duct tape works as well, and will stay on even if you sweat or get the area wet.

  3. Step 3

Cut the tape to the size that you need for a band-aid, probably a couple of inches longer than the pad and half an inch wider. Stick the cloth pad to the center. You now have a home-made band-aid that you can apply over the cut.

Tips & Warnings
  • As with any band-aid, remove it regularly to check for problems, and apply normal first-aid treatment if problems arise.
