How to Clean Out a Litter Box

A cat wants a clean litter box to use every day. After all would you want to use a dirty restroom? Follow these steps to getting the litter box its cleanest and to make both you can your cat happy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • plastic bags
  • litter scoop
  • fresh litter
  • water
  • soap
  • bleach
  • towels
  1. Step 1

    Scoop your cats litter boxes every day, at least twice a day. Place the waste in a plastic bag and then throw it in the garbage after you have tied it off.

  2. Step 2

    Once a week, get rid of all the used litter in the boxes. Rinse out the box with hot water, and then scrub it down good with soap.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse the box well and then let it soak for a few minutes with bleach water. Add about half a cup to the litter box and then fill with cold water. Rinse very well after a few minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Place new litter in the box after it has dried completely. Add either baking soda or a commercial made product to stop odors.

Tips & Warnings
  • cats will be more likely to use a clean litter box
  • Do not use any products that your cat may be allergic to. If the bleach bothers him, discontinue use and find another product to use.
