How to Fix a Wobbly Chair
A wobbly chair can turn a nice dinner into an annoying balancing act. Before you topple out of a tippy chair, take it to the workshop to troubleshoot. Look for loose joints and rungs. A loose rung puts pressure on all the other chair joints, weakening the structure of the chair. If the joints are solid, look to the legs of the chair to fix the wobble. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Move the wobbly chair to a flat surface. Rock it slightly to see if one leg is shorter than the other legs.
-
2
Check for furniture glides on the bottom of the chair. If the glides are adjustable, lengthen the glide on the short leg.
-
-
3
Slide a shim or a piece of heavy-duty cardboard under the short leg until the chair sits steady, if the glides are not adjustable. Mark the cardboard or shim with a pencil. Turn the chair on its side and remove the glide. Cut the shim or cardboard and hold it on the bottom of the chair leg. Replace the glide on the bottom and screw it in place to hold the shim steady.

4
Lengthen the leg of a chair without glides to fix a wobble; don't shorten the longer legs. Slide a slice of cork or shim under the short leg of the short chair until the chair is level.
-
5
Cut the cork or shim to the diameter of the leg bottom. Clean the bottom of the chair leg.
-
6
Glue the slice of cork or shim to the short leg with wood glue. To prevent the cork or shim from coming off, finish with an adjustable glide. Add glides to the other three legs.
