How to View E-mail Attachments That Aren't Supported by America Online

Can't find or open a file you downloaded from e-mail on America Online because it's not supported? Relax, help is on the way.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet Access
  • E-mail Accounts
  • Computers
  • Internet Explorer
  • Netscape Navigator
  • Netscape Navigator
  • Internet Explorer
  1. Step 1

    Go to your AOL screen.

  2. Step 2

    Open the File menu and select Open.

  3. Step 3

    Make sure the "Look in" box says (C:). If it doesn't, click the down arrow next to the box and choose (C:).

  4. Step 4

    Scroll to your AOL folder.

  5. Step 5

    Click it.

  6. Step 6

    Click the Open button.

  7. Step 7

    Click the Download folder.

  8. Step 8

    Click the Open button.

  9. Step 9

    Click on the arrow next to "Files of type."

  10. Step 10

    Click on the up arrow when the list comes down and choose All Files.

  11. Step 11

    Right-click once on the file you want.

  12. Step 12

    Click on Open.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can find all your files that don't show up on AOL this way, not just the ones you download from e-mail.
  • You can't just double-click on a file that isn't AOL-supported. You have to right-click and use Open, or it won't work.
  • If you ever download a file from an e-mail and don't know what folder it went to, bring up the e-mail and pretend you are going to download it again. That will take you to the folder where it is.
