Things You'll Need:
- a whetstone or other sharpener
-
Step 1
If you are using a whetstone, you need to soak it in water before you use it. Also make sure your knife is clean and free of extreme damage - if there are large nicks or it is bent, you may want to invest in a new knife.
-
Step 2
This is an example of a knife sharpener - they come with some knife sets and make sharpening a breezeSlide the knife along the whetstone or sharpener. Apply gently pressure - don't push too hard or you can damage your knife.
-
Step 3
Have the knife blade at a 10 to 20 degree angle above the stone - if your angle is too steep it will simply wear out the blade without sharpening it.
-
Step 4
Make sure you sharpen both sides of the knife. Sharpening only one side will not give you as sharp of an edge.
