Things You'll Need:
- Small papier mache boxes with lids, found at Michael's and other craft stores.
- Acrylic paint
- Paint brush or sponge
- Stamps and black or brown ink, permanent is best.
- Mod Podge (to use as a sealer)
- Glitter (optional)
- Medium brown ink (for optional step)
-
Step 1
Pick out your box. Papier mache boxes come in different shapes and sizes. For this project I've used a square box. Hearts, stars or other shapes will work just as well, so don't be afraid to try unusual shapes.
-
Step 2
Gift boxes with an added element of collageSince this box is "quick and easy", only paint the lid. Use a paint brush or sponge and cover the outside of the lid with a thin layer of acrylic paint. Let the first layer dry for 10 minutes or so and then add another layer if needed. Sometimes the brown color of the paper shows through the paint - - I don't usually mind this, but sometimes I add more paint to make the color totally opaque. Let the paint dry thoroughly. If you're like me and hate to wait, you can speed up the drying process by using a hairdryer or small fan.

Step 3
Now it's time to stamp the lids. Swirly stamps are great for adding beautiful patterns to the edges of the lid. It's a good idea to practice with the stamp on some scrap paper, especially if it's a brand new stamp. Ink the stamp and then lightly tap excess ink onto a paper towel or scrap paper. Stamp around the outside edge of the box lid until you are happy with how it looks. Don't worry if it's not perfect. It's fairly easy to cover up mistakes with a swirly stamp - - this is one reason I love them so much!

Step 4
If you like the box as is, skip this step. If your box needs another decorative touch, choose a small stamp for the center portion of the box lid. Let the ink dry thoroughly before applying sealer.

Step 5
Use a paint brush or sponge to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the lid. If you like glitter, this is the perfect time to sprinkle a little glitter onto the wet Mod Podge.
