Currently, many people are worried about swine flu. Swine flu is a new strain of the flu virus that has mutated to a new form that the human body has no resistance against. This new strain of the flu can be deadly. An outbreak such as this has not been seen since 1968 in the last flu pandemic (a pandemic is a epidemic that has no restrictions due to physical boarders, it means a outbreak that reaches across the globe, affecting almost every person on the planet). Influenza, also known as the flu, cannot be treated with antibiotics, as it is a viral strain. The only way to fight a viral illness is through a vaccine, but a vaccine is only effective before you become infected. Once infection occurs, there is little an individual can do to fight off the flu. Right now, the US does not have any form of a vaccine to treat the swine flu outbreak. Currently, it will take 30 days before a vaccine will be able to be available, then it has to be produce in quantities large enough to administer to the majority of the population and then distributed. By the time a vaccine is available, a majority of the population could already be infected by then. In my family, we have a tried and true method for fighting off illness. Passed down through my family, from my grandfather, my father, to me, none off us have had to miss a single day of work due to illness. By following these simple rules, anyone can fight off any illness, even swine flu.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Once you start to feel flu like symptoms, that is the time to act. If you wait too long, you will give the illness time to become strong enough to fight your immune system. Once that happens, it will be harder for you to fight off the illness. Once you start to feel flu like symptoms, follow these simple steps.

  2. Step 2

First off, locate as many blankets as you can get. The more blankets you have, the better. Find a comfortable place to lay down and get comfortable. Cover yourself with the blankets. These blankets will cause your internal temperature to rise, helping your body fuel the much needed fever to fight the disease. Using blankets will not be enough.

  3. Step 3

As you increase your body temperature, you will increase the rate you sweat. In order to fight off dehydration and keep your body temperature up, drink plenty of fluids. Stay clear of cold fluids such as milk or juice, and stick to hot liquids such as tea or broth (or 1 c hot water and 1 bouillon cube). You will want to stay under the blankets at least over night.

  4. Step 4

Not surprisingly, a strong support for this treatment, is a bowl of either homemade or canned (not condensed) chicken soup. Chicken soup actually can help boost your immune system and the hot broth in the soup is also needed to keep you hydrated. This is the suggested meal for the evening you lay down and the following morning. By following these simple steps, you can help your body fight off the upcoming swine flu pandemic.
