Cold sores can be painful and embarrassing. They normally appear on the lips or near the mouth area and can be spread to other areas of the body. It may start out as a pimple and then become to a full blown sore. The first sign of a cold sore, is a tingling feeling in the affected area. Cold sores are very common and can prevented by following a few simple tips.

  1. Step 1

    Reduce stress in your life. Stress can trigger a cold sore outbreak. Cold sore, which is caused by the Herpes simplex virus, (HSV-1) once contracted cannot be cured. It lays dormant for many years without any signs.

  2. Step 2

    Avoid certain types of food, if you suffer from recurrent cold sore outbreaks, Eating certain foods that are high in Arginine can trigger a cold sore outbreak. Chocolate, peanut or peanut butter, are high in Arginine.

  3. Step 3

    Boost your immune system by taking vitamins each day and eating a lot of fresh vegetables and fruits. Take extra vitamin C at the first sign of a cold sore. People who have weak immune system, are easier to develop a cold sore.

  4. Step 4

    Take a lysine supplement each day or if you feel like you are about to have a cold sore outbreak. Lysine can be taking internally in the form of supplements or can be applied directly to the affected area. For best results, apply lysine as soon as there is a tingling feeling and you can prevent the actually stop the outbreak entirely.
