You can design your own custom, virtual house with a free computer program called 3D Home Architect. 3D Home Architect is so simple to use that even children can create her own virtual house. You can use your virtual design using blueprints from an architect or when building an actual custom home. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you design a simple virtual house using 3D Home Architect.

      Download a free version of 3D Home Architect from a website that offers free downloads, such as Downloads.nl (See Resources Below.) Click on the link that says "Download Now." The 3D Home Architect will begin to download right away and will be available for use within minutes.

      Open a new file within 3D Home Architect. Click on the word "File" at the top left-hand side of the screen. When the drop-down list appears, click on the selection "New." A white screen will appear. This is where you will design your virtual home.

      Add walls to your virtual house by clicking on the wall icon at the top of the screen. Click and drag anywhere on the screen to place your walls. As you drag, the dimensions of the walls will automatically appear, making designing an accurate house easier. Once you have created the exterior walls, begin to create rooms by adding the interior walls.

      Add utilities to your home by clicking the toilet icon at the top of the screen. A window will appear, displaying all of the appliances you can add to the virtual house. Select the appliance you would like to add, then click inside your virtual house to place it where you would like it to go. You can add everything from stoves, to electrical outlets, to bathtubs.

      Add a roof to your virtual house by clicking the roof icon at the top of the screen. A window will appear to allow you to decide on the pitch and composition of the roof. Once you are finished, click the "OK" button. The roof will automatically appear on your virtual house.
