Offer Clothing Alterations:
Many busy professionals will pay top dollar for someone to alter or customize their expensive business apparel. Some drycleaners offer alteration services, but many times they simply just outsource the sewing work to others. There's no personal connection with the customer. A key benefit that you can offer is one on one attention with the customer and making sure they are satisfied with the quality of your sewing work. Get the word out about your sewing services by printing flyers and posting them in local Laundromats and dry-cleaning businesses. Take out an ad in the local community sales paper and offer your services. Use word of mouth to inform others of what you can do for them.

Make Custom Sewn Items:
Can you sew doll clothes? What about baby clothes? How about fabric curtains? There are a variety of custom sewn and created items for which people will pay a premium price. Most people lack the time, skills, and equipment to sew their own items, therefore an opportunity arises for you to make money with sewing. Start by going to local craft and fashion stores and get a good idea of what the customers are buying. Then, develop your own original designs and ideas for similar products. Make several demos of each item and offer them to others. Continue this process of trial and error until you've developed a catalog of hot, in demand home sewn items for you to sell.

Sew for Students:
Many students, especially nursing, physical therapy, and culinary, need someone to carefully sew their patches and emblems onto their school uniforms and scrubs. This is an easy way to generate some extra cash and once the word gets out, that you can do it for a reasonable price, you'll have every student in the class at your doorstep. Contact local schools and colleges and ask if you can post a flyer with your information in a student area, or on the school's message board.
