Looking for information on how to put music on your PSP? It couldn't be simpler. These steps show you how to connect to your computer, access your mp3 files, and transfer them to your PSP.

Stop wishing you could use your PSP to its fullest capacity. Games are only a fraction of what your PSP can deliver. Learn how to put MP3 files on your PSP and ditch your outdated mobile sound system for good.

These steps apply to most PSP devices. Note that you must have a computer with MP3 music files in order to transfer them to your PSP. If you don't have MP3 music files, there are steps to make .wav and other files work, but they are not covered in these instructions.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • MP3 Music Files
  • USB Cable
  1. Step 1

    FIND MP3s

If you have mp3 files on your computer already, you simply need to find them so you can transfer them to the PSP. If you do not have such files, you will need to acquire them by purchasing music online. If you are purchasing music, be aware of where your mp3 files are being saved. You will need this information.

  2. Step 2

    USB CONNECT

Next, connect your computer to your PSP with a USB cable. Almost any USB cable will do, but high speed USB cables can make the process much quicker. Connect one end of the USB cable to your PSP device (via the USB port) and connect the other end to a USB port on your computer.

  3. Step 3

    LOCATE PSP ON COMPUTER

You now need to locate the PSP device through your computer. To do this, access "my computer" and navigate to a list of available drives. You should find your PSP listed, though it may not be listed by name. If you see a drive that is not normally listed, it is likely the PSP.

When you have located the drive, double click to open it.

  4. Step 4

    CREATE NEW PSP FOLDER

To put music on your PSP, you should create a folder to hold the music. You can do this from within the drive you have opened on your computer. From within the "my computer" window (which should now display the contents of your PSP), right click and select "new folder". Name your new folder, 'music'.

Leave this window open and move on to the next step.

  5. Step 5

    OPEN "MY COMPUTER AGAIN"

You should have "My Computer" open in a window on your desktop. Do not shut that window. You simply need to open another "My Computer" window. To do this, click "my computer" from the START menu.

  6. Step 6

    LOCATE COMPUTER MP3 MUSIC FILES

From within the new "My Computer" window, locate the music you wish to transfer. This may be done as a single song, many songs, or an entire folder at once. Your music should be saved on the C-Drive if your computer has only one hard drive. Navigate to the correct file.

  7. Step 7

TRANSFER or PUT MUSIC ON YOUR PSP

Once you have found the music you wish to transfer, click and drag the file(s) or folder to the 'music' file you have created on your PSP. Once this is done, transfer should start on its own. Transfer time will vary based on file size and USB cable capacity.

  8. Step 8

    PLAY MUSIC

When you have put music on your PSP, try playing the music.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you do not have MP3 music files, but do have music files in other formats, you can convert those files to mp3 and make them work on your PSP. WAV to MP3 encoders are available free online.
