How to Organize a Family Reunion
Family reunions provide an opportunity to visit with family members you don't see on a regular basis. But organizing one takes careful planning and preparation, especially if you have a large family. In addition to the time you put in preparing for the event, you need to determine what you need to purchase. While most reunions cost money to prepare, it's possible to have a well-organized event on a small budget.

1
Make your guest list. Instead of listing each individual person, list people by family and put their addresses and the number of people in their immediate families next to them.
-
2
Find and reserve a location. If you have a tight budget, consider throwing the reunion at someone's home, but make sure the house has enough space to accommodate everyone. Alternatively, contact rental halls in your area to see who has the best price. You could also call a park to reserve a picnic shelter.

Decide what each family will bring. Some reunion organizers provide the main meal---like sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers---and ask everyone else to bring a side dish to share. If you want to keep reunion costs minimal, have each family bring its own family's main dish and drinks and a side dish to share with everyone at the reunion.

Determine what activities you want to have. It's important to keep your guests occupied, especially with children in attendance. If you have your reunion at a park, reserve one with a playground. Also, outside games---like cornhole or horse shoes---make good activities. Some families choose to do relay races, water balloon tosses or even potato sack races during their reunions.

Create, address and mail the invitations. In addition to the place and time of your reunion, include what each family needs to bring. For example, items like food, drinks, swimming suits and chairs should all be included on the invitation if your guests need to bring them to the reunion.
