Wood Floors
Wood Floors
John De Boer

Wood floors are beautiful and durable, but like all floor covering, they take a bit of knowledge to keep them looking their best. If the floors are not kept clean, dirt can scratch the surface. Wood floors can also be damaged by using the wrong cleaners or cleaning methods.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The best thing to do in caring for wood floors is to vacuum and dust mop them on a regular basis. Vacuuming is especially important. It helps remove dirt from the cracks and crevices between floor boards and by the baseboards.

  2. Step 2

If something spills on the wood floors, clean them up as soon as possible. This is especially important for liquid spills. Water and other liquids can warp and stain wood floors if the substance is left too long.

  3. Step 3

Use throw rugs on wood floors, especially for heavy traffic areas. Use rubber mats under the rugs to keep them from sliding across the floor. Clean the rugs routinely.

  4. Step 4

Be careful about shoes on wood floors. Keep the soles of shoes in good repair so they do not scratch and scuff the floor. High heel shoes can easily dent and damage wood floors. Consider making a no shoes in the house rule.

  5. Step 5

Use furniture pads on the bottom of furniture. Sticky pads can be placed on the bottom of chairs and table legs. Plastic saucers can be placed under bigger pieces of furniture.
