Things You'll Need:
- sunblock
- sun umbrella
- hat with bill
- common sense!
-
Step 1
Purchase a sunblock of with an SPF of 45. Anything higher than this does no better than 45.
-
Step 2
Purchase a hat you LIKE with a bill large enough to shade your face. I say a hat you like, because the more you like the hat, the more you will wear it. The more you wear it, the more protection you will have. Face it, your face is your money-maker, you do not want to age more than you must.
-
Step 3
Purchase a large sun umbrella. Sunscreen is great, and sun hats are fine, but there is a time to get out of the sun!
-
Step 4
BEFORE you go into the sun, apply a liberal amount of sunscreen to your dry skin. Make sure you get all of your body. Just because you forget to cover a place does not mean the sun will forget to burn it. Just because you cannot reach an area does not mean the sun cannot. Have a friend get the places you can't reach. Make sure the lotion is actually rubbed in. If it does not absorb, it does not protect.
-
Step 5
Reapply sunscreen every four hours. If you find yourself rubbing against clothing, sand, or submersing yourself in water a lot, make sure you reapply even more often. If you plan on swimming or even sweating a lot (which happens in the heat), you should use a waterproof sunblock.
-
Step 6
Wear a hat to protect your face. Keep it on at all times in the sun for prolonged periods of time or in extreme conditions.
-
Step 7
Have a large sun umbrella on hand. Once a sunburn begins, you will feel awful if you are unable to get out of the sun. You cannot undo a sunburn by applying more sunscreen. By this time it is already too late. You must hide your hide!
