Things You'll Need:
- a horse
- saddle and bridle
- helmet
- application
-
Step 1
To dismount you do as you did for mounting, except in reverse order.
Hold both reins in your left hand and rest your right hand on the saddle near the pommel.
Lean your left hand, still holding the reins on the withers.
Take your right foot out of the stirrup iron and lean forward a little.
Swing your right foot over the horse's croup in one clean motion without touching the horse. Gently step down onto the ground. -
Step 2
Let go of the reins and reach your arm through them.
Lift the left saddle flap up and slide the stirrup iron up along the leather.
Pull the leather under the flat of the iron to hold it in place. Do the same with the other iron. -
Step 3
Loosen the girth by two holes.
Lift the reins over the horse's head, grip them a few inches below the mouth and lead the horse back to the stable.
