When you want your bathroom to be spotless there is a system you can use. By following these techniques, tips, and methods you will find that your bathroom will not only be clean when you get it clean, but will stay cleaner when you don't have time to do it thoroughly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • glass cleaner
  • sink cleaner
  • toilet bowl cleaner
  • rags for cleaning
  • broom
  • mop/floor cleaner
  • air freshener (optional)
  1. Step 1

The first thing to do in a bathroom is to "start at the top." Wipe down the mirror with your clean rag lightly sprayed with glass cleaner. Do this first so the clean rag is unable to get any dirt on the mirror.

  2. Step 2

Then dust (with the same lightly sprayed rag) the light fixtures in the bathroom. Spot check the walls and wipe off any dirty spots. Wipe down the light switch.

  3. Step 3

Then move to the sink and countertops. Make sure all extra things are put away (toothpaste and brushes, makeup, lotions, etc.) Wipe counters, pushing all dirt and hair into the sink.

  4. Step 4

Use a sink cleaner to do the sink with your rag. Wash out the sink and rinse it with hot water. Use a dry rag and glass cleaner to wipe and dry at the same time. Use glass cleaner or polish to wipe faucet and handles. Do these really well-they make some of the biggest differences in a first impression.

  5. Step 5

Check the cupboards under the sink and counter for spots or fingerprints and make sure they are clean.

  6. Step 6

Now move on to the shower and bath. Wipe walls down with cleaner. Wipe doors down, using water and shower cleaner if necessary. Turn on shower (you'll probably get wet) to rinse everything down the drain. Make sure anything that doesn't go down the drain ends up in the trash. Organize and wipe down all bottles of shampoo, conditioner, gel, etc. Wipe out soap dish. Again finish up by cleaning and shining the handles and faucets.

  7. Step 7

Move to toilet. Flush the toilet first to get the bowl all wet. Sprinkle inside with a toilet bowl cleaner (or sink cleaner if you don't have any). Let that soak while you wipe down the top, handles, and sides with a cleaner and rag. Wipe each seat, both top and bottom. Make sure to do the base of the bowl as well, including the part where dust collects at the ground and in the back. Go back and scrub the toilet with a toilet brush. Flush toilet, and be sure to get rid of bubbles. You may have to flush it multiple times.

  8. Step 8

If you have a separate bath, now do the bathtub. Run water for a moment to fill bottom; just enough to cover the bottom. Hot is better. Use cleaner and let that sit on bottom and sides of bathtub. While that is sitting, use a rag sprayed with cleaner to wipe down the surrounding walls and the tops of the tub. Also wipe down any bottles, decorations, etc., that sit on the bathtub wall. When this is wiped down move on to the sides. Wipe straight down into the bottom of the tub. Be sure to get the crease where the water line sits. You may need to use a stronger cleaner to get waterlines off, particularly if you have hard water. Then start in the back of the tub and wipe down to the drain area. Scrub off any dirt spots. By now you should have a pile of dust, hair, and dirt at the drain. Turn the water on slowly (!) and let it drain down. Anything that doesn't go down the drain, clean out with a rag. Get a dry rag and wipe out the tub, drying at the same time. You can again use window cleaner to give this a shine. Lastly, spray and wipe down the faucet and handle, very well.

  9. Step 9

Now replace the trash cans in the bathroom. To do the floor, remove any mats or rugs. Vacuum these.

  10. Step 10

Then sweep out the bathroom floor and put anything on the floor (TP holders, trash cans, etc.) on the toilet seat or out of the room. Using hot water and floor cleaner (ammonia works great for linoleum) use a rag or a mop to wipe all dirt and stains off the floor. Wait for this to dry (or quick-dry it with a towel and your feet) then replace everything.

  11. Step 11

Close the toilet seat, close the shower door or curtain (or leave open if you prefer), close all the cupboards. Ta da!

Tips & Warnings
  • Do this when you have a lot of energy--it can take it out of you.
  • Make sure the bathroom is ventilated well. There may be a lot of cleaning fumes. Also be careful not to mix dangerous cleaning chemicals--the fumes could be toxic.
