Add Effects to Text in Adobe Photoshop CS4

Photoshop gives you the great opportunity to add special effects to any text that you type just like any other object you create. In this tutorial I go over the basics to give you an idea as to how you can do it. Remember, you are only limited by your own creativity.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adobe Photoshop CS4
  1. Step 1

Launch Adobe Photoshop CS4, create a new project, and select the text tool. Choose a font and a size and type in a word. I chose the Arial font with a size of 72.

  2. Step 2

The way you add effects is through the layer style window. On that window you can add textures, gradients, bevels and much more. At the bottom of the layers panel click the "fx" icon to bring up the layer style window.

  3. Step 3

Go through each of the styles and make adjustments until you get the text to look exactly the way you want it. I went through and chose all of the defaults, and my text looks like the picture associated with this step.
