Want a satisfying meal or snack that is healthy too? This breakfast shake or smoothie is a great choice, especially if you're trying to eat healthier without feeling deprived. The key to staying satisfied is making sure you get plenty of fiber from plant foods. A fruity smoothie is a convenient way to get your daily dose of fiber and nutrients. Try using oatmeal to boost the fiber and protein content in your regular fruit smoothies as well as give them a nice, nutty flavor. This smoothie is full of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, protein, and is low in fat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • blender
  • small or medium-sized banana
  • handful of oats
  • about 6 frozen or fresh strawberries
  • a handful of blueberries and/or blackberries
  • milk or soy milk
  • optional: Vanilla or Chocolate protein powder (I use Designer Whey)
  1. Step 1

Break up the banana into pieces. Drop the fruit and oats into the blender. Add one serving (about 6 tablespoons) of protein powder. Then pour in enough milk or soy milk to almost cover all of the other ingredients.

  2. Step 2

Turn on the blender until the mixture is smooth and creamy. (If the blender gets stuck, try adding more liquid or stirring up the ingredients at the bottom with a spoon.)

  3. Step 3

Pour it into a glass, and enjoy! This is a healthy, highly nutritious treat for your body and your taste buds. This is sure to be a hit with family and friends and sure tastes better than donuts for breakfast!

Tips & Warnings
  • Too make the smoothie even thicker and chillier, try dropping in a few ice cubes one at a time after blending a little bit.
  • Add a fancy touch by pouring the smoothie into a tall glass and garnishing with fresh berries.
  • Try experimenting with different fruit combinations, like pineapple and papaya.
  • NEVER stick your hands in the blender, even if it's off because you could cut yourself on the blades or accidentally turn it on and...well, you know-you might become part of the smoothie!
