Every day at least one person decides to lose some weight. For whatever reason, losing weight 'sounds' easy but isn't always easily followed through. Among the preparations for losing weight, you need to mentally prepare yourself. After all, how do you plan on following through if you aren't prepared for everything that can happen during the time of your weight loss program? The following steps will help prepare you mentally for the hard work ahead that will help you reach your weight loss goals.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Journal
  • Personalized Workout Plan
  1. Step 1

Start keeping a journal. One of the greatest and easiest ways of reaching any goal is to keep a journal. Start by writing how you feel about yourself right now. Then write about the results you want to see and how you think you can go about achieving them.

  2. Step 2

Write down your goals and current measurements. Put your weight loss goals on paper to help you better determine the best approach for achieving your goals. Go ahead and take your body measurements as well so you can start tracking this weekly or however often you like.

  3. Step 3

Choose a realistic diet. Making wise food choices and exercising regularly is one of the best ways to shed those extra pounds. Choose your foods wisely and aim for healthy foods. There are so many healthy snacks available nowadays that taste just as good as the unhealthy ones if not better!

  4. Step 4

Change the way you look at food. For example, when you see a donut, instead of focusing on just how good it's going to taste, think about what it is in that donut that is good for you. What part of that donut is going to benefit you health wise? Picture it sticking to your hips, or stomach, or whatever area you feel it will end up. Try to do this every time you want to eat something that you know will interfere with your weight loss and you'll find that after time you are less tempted by these foods.

  5. Step 5

Buy an outfit in the wrong size. By wrong size I mean a size smaller than you currently are. This is a great way to motivate yourself because once you are able to start feeling more comfortable in this smaller outfit, you know your hard work is paying off. Try it on every Sunday or whatever day of the week you choose. Just seeing if you're getting close can boost your confidence and help you reach your goals.

  6. Step 6

Get support from others. Whether you choose your family, friends, or an online community for support, it will help. Knowing that others are standing behind you and cheering you on is a major boost and can help tremendously. Whenever you feel tempted to eat or do something that you know you shouldn't, get a-hold of someone that supports you to help distract you and remind yourself of what you want to accomplish.

  7. Step 7

Be prepared to fail. While you don't want to use this in a way that makes you continuously fail, you do want to be prepared to fail just in case. This will actually help you get back on that weight loss horse and try again whereas if you aren't prepared, you could easily give up after you fail for a first time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider an online journal if you find it easier to write that way instead of in an actual journal. There are many free sites you can join and start journaling today!
  • Create your own workout regimen. Doing the exercises that you enjoy can help motivate yourself to work out regularly.
  • Track your progress. You can track this in a notebook or even online. Again, there are many free sites you can join that will let you do just that.
