Step 1
The biggest source of salt for most people isn't the table salt you add to food- its processed food. Eliminate as much packaged, processed non-perishable food from your diet as possible. Its loaded with salt and calories and doesn't taste that great anyway. Eat mostly things that can rot like produce and fresh meat, which doesn't contain much salt.

Eat out less, especially at chain and fast food restaurants. These places use mostly processed, salt-loaded products with very little produce or fresh items on the menu. Even at pricey chains like Applebee's nearly everything comes frozen and ready-made and is simply dropped in a fryer. Gross.

Step 3
Cook with fresh herbs. They add such great flavor to dishes you can leave out most salt and never miss it. It needs to be fresh though, dried herbs taste completely different and will not reduce the perceived need for salt. Try fresh rosemary, thyme and garlic to just about anything. Cumin and ginger are great for a more exotic twist.
