Decorating is fun!

Home decoration projects don't have to cost a lot of money, especially when decorating a room for your child. Save money on bedroom décor by being your own interior decorator. If your son or daughter is old enough, let them help pick out paint colors or fabric patterns.

When done correctly, home furnishings can be used as learning tools for the kids, making the bedroom space both fun and functional.

Step 1

Pick a wall and turn the entire wall into a chalkboard. You can use real chalkboard or buy chalkboard paint. This is a creative way to give a child their very own place to draw and then they can erase it and start all over again as many times as they want. This is an eco-friendly way to help our planet by using a chalkboard instead of paper.
Step 2

Let children make their very own Terrarium. Terrariums can be small or large. You can use any size of container from an empty milk jug to a soda can. Your child can have their very own mini eco-system in their bedroom that they created. Keep the terrarium in one corner of the room and paint the walls in earth tones.
Step 3

Create an arts and crafts corner. Make ink stamps out of craft foam by cutting the foam into different shape and sizes. Craft foam comes in a variety of fun colors and is easy to work with. You also use these stamps to embellish walls or furniture by dipping them in paint and stamping the shapes onto different objects.
Step 4

Instead of using traditional chairs in the room, toss a few beanbag chairs on the floor. Beanbag chairs are available in kid's sizes. Look for the ones that are made from non-toxic organic materials.
Step 5

Let the kids pick out the color of paint they want and let them help do the painting. Give them the freedom to express themselves on one wall. Use big puffy sponges or bunched up rags to paint with, or use small paintbrushes to paint around the outline of fun stencils.
Step 6

Put glow-in-the dark stickers of stars and moons and planets on the ceiling so the kids can fly to the moon or gaze at stars as they drift off to sleep. Or paint the ceiling to look like a blue sky full of fluffy white clouds. That way, even when the weather is bad outside, your child can wake up to clear blue skies every morning.
Step 7

Place a large foam rubber map of the United States on the floor and teach your child the states of the US. Make your own map from craft foam, or check local and online retailers to purchase one that is already made.
Step 8

Make a puzzle using soft non-toxic craft foam. Cut the foam into funky shapes that resemble farm animals, sea creatures, or whatever your kids enjoy. Lay the puzzle pieces on the floor to create a fun cushioned play area.
