Good ear hygiene is an important aspect of ferret care. Ferrets naturally produce allot of ear wax. Cleaning your ferrets ears regularly will prevent waxy buildup, remove dirt and will help to prevent ear mites.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ferret Ear Cleaner
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Helper
  1. Step 1

    Find a willing helper.

  2. Step 2

Have your helper gently scruff the ferret, this helps calm the ferret and restrain it.

  3. Step 3

Place a few drops of ear cleaner into your ferrets ears.

  4. Step 4

Gently massage the area below the ear with your finger, this will help to soften and loosen the waxy debris inside of the ear.

  5. Step 5

Take a cotton ear swab and gently clean the outer portion of the ear. Never put the cotton swab deep into the ear canal, you may cause damage to your ferrets ear.

  6. Step 6

Repeat the process for the second ear.

  7. Step 7

Look for any redness or soreness in the ears. Contact your veterinarian if these conditions are present. Your ferret may have ear mites or an ear infection.

Tips & Warnings
  • You wont be able to accomplish anything unless you have the ferret properly restrained by scruffing it
