Use A Rock Band Microphone as a PC Mic

This is how to use your Rock Band or Rock Band 2 microphone as a mic on your PC or Laptop running Windows XP or Vista.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rock Band or Rock Band 2 USB Microphone
  • Laptop or PC with an open USB port
  1. Step 1

Take your Rock Band Microphone and insert the USB end into any open USB port on your PC or Laptop.

  2. Step 2

Once you have inserted your Microphone's USB plug, your computer will notify you it has found New Hardware (Logitech USB Microphone). It will then install the necessary driver for the microphone to work. Your Anti-Virus software may try and block the driver from loading, just select "Allow" when your anti-virus software asks your permission.

  3. Step 3

When the driver is successfully loaded, go to the Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, and then select Sound Recorder. (In Vista, you skip the entertainment folder and select Sound Recorder form the Accessories folder).

  4. Step 4

With the Sound Recorder open, click record and begin speaking. When you are finished speaking, click stop recording.

  5. Step 5

Click Play to hear your recorded message.

Tips & Warnings
  • Any Wii, XBox360, or PS3 Rock Band or Rock Band 2 USB microphone will work.
  • You can also use your Rock Band Microphone in other Audio recording programs such as Audacity.
  • If you cannot hear your recorded message, check your volume setting on your computer.
  • You can test and set your playback volume by right clicking the sound icon in your system tray and selecting "Adjust Audio Properties." From there click the "Voice" tab and then "Test Hardware" under "Voice Recording."
