Enclosed Utility Trailer

Whether you are hauling an ATV or something larger like a car, an enclosed utility trailer can prove to be invaluable. One of the best things about an enclosed utility trailer is its ability to protect your cargo from the elements of nature and keep it as clean as when you loaded it. There are some important considerations when choosing an enclosed utility trailer, and this article will address what you need to be aware of when selecting one.

Seriously consider the capacity of your enclosed utility trailer because that is the most important factor you need to decide on. Think about exactly what you'll be using the trailer for and then plan around that. You will need a much larger and heavier duty trailer to haul a car or truck than you will to haul a motorcycle or snowmobile. It is better to err on the larger side than the smaller side when choosing an enclosed utility trailer, but make sure that whatever you're towing it with has enough power to handle the trailer and it's cargo.

Look for an enclosed utility trailer that has a self contained ramp for loading and unloading cargo. This is nice because you can simply fold the ramp down or out and drive your cargo right inside. Some of the cheaper enclosed utility trailers have detachable ramps that you have to stow inside the trailer along with your cargo, and it becomes a hassle to take them in and out. Avoid this feature if you can and opt for a self contained ramp.

Be aware of how many tie downs are inside your enclosed utility trailer, because you can never have too many. Always pay attention to this because no matter what you are hauling the more points you have to secure it the safer it will be, and it will also be easier to tow the trailer when something isn't sliding around inside and the weight is evenly distributed.

Make sure that you opt for an enclosed utility trailer with a good braking system. Any trailer worth it's salt will have it's own brakes that are operated electronically via the electronic brake control in your truck. The better the brakes on your trailer the less strain on the truck. Better trailer brakes also mean that you can stop more effectively and safely.

Decide whether or not you want to spend the extra money for amenities such as lights and shelves inside the trailer. If it is large enough you can even have a small workbench and some storage cabinets. These things will come at a more premium price so you have to decide if you can afford them, and also if you really need them. If you plan on doing some mechanical work out of your trailer or are hauling something that is in a race then it might be beneficial to have some amenities, otherwise if you are just hauling something around town you probably don't need them.
