Total your monthly income and monthly expenses. If you're in the green, that's a good start. You can then plan to put the extra money towards other funds such as savings, paying off loans more quickly, etc.

Review your budget monthly. Make any necessary changes and record what the actual budget turned out to be. Make any financial goals and record those as well for your own reference.
