How to Make Japanese Matcha Tea
The Japanese devote a lot of thought to the preparation of tea. While you don't have to spend the same amount of time preparing your tea as the Japanese do in the traditional tea ceremony, there is a benefit to making Japanese matcha tea instead of basic green tea. With matcha, you will drink tea made with the entire green tea leaf in powdered form. A single cup of matcha tea has ten times the health benefits of a cup of basic green tea. Enjoy matcha tea enriched with antioxidants, catechin and chlorophyll to detoxify your body and strengthen your immunity. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need

1
Scoop the tea powder into the cup. You can use a traditional Japanese bamboo tea scoop if you like, but a basic circular 1/2 tsp. scoop will work just as well. Start with 1/2 tsp. of powder; you can add more or less in the future if you decide you want a stronger or weaker brew. The more powder in the brew, the stronger it will taste. If you use the bamboo tea scoop, start with 1 1/2 to 2 scoops and add more or less in subsequent brewings to taste.

2
Add boiling water to the powder in the cup. Start with 1/3 cup. You can reduce the amount to 1/4 cup if you want a stronger brew.

Whisk the powder and water mixture. Hold the bamboo whisk straight up to get the best vantage point. Start with the whisk in the middle of the cup. Do not touch the whisk all the way to the bottom of the cup. Whisk in a circular motion at a slow pace until the powder begins to dissolve. Increase the pace and whisk the mixture from side to side. Remove the whisk after a foam appears atop the mixture. Tap the whisk gently against the side of the bowl to drop the excess foam into the cup.

Tips & Warnings
Store the matcha tea powder at room temperature.
Although the bamboo whisk and the Japanese tea cup complete the Japanese matcha tea experience, you can substitute any whisk or any rounded tea cup and still enjoy the same basic flavor.
Let the tea cool slightly before you drink it to reduce the risk of burn.
