Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • baking soda
  • vinegar
  • vacuum
  • rag or paper towel
  • baby wipes
  1. Step 1

First, remove any of the cat puke that is on top of the carpet. Often cats will throw up if their food has been changed or if they have eaten grass. Lift the grass or food away first with a rag or paper towel.

  2. Step 2

Baby wipes are good for the next step. Take a baby wipe and wipe away as much of the cat vomit from the carpet by rubbing back and forth. It may take several baby wipes to get the top layer of vomit off the carpet. Continue rubbing the carpet with baby wipes until you no longer see the cat vomit on the baby wipe.

  3. Step 3

It may appear clean, however, there is still some cat puke in the carpet that can be removed. Cover the spot where the cat threw up completely with baking soda so it forms a pile. It should be at least 1/4 of an inch thick over the cat vomit spot. Let it sit for several hours until the baking soda is hard.

  4. Step 4

Several hours later the baking soda should show spots where it has absorbed the cat vomit. Make sure it has hardened or it is still absorbing. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda.

  5. Step 5

Next, sprinkle the spot with baking soda again and then pour vinegar over the spot. Cover the area again with a thick layer of baking soda. Allow to sit again until hardened. Vacuum. The carpet is now cat vomit free.

on 6/18/2009 Good advice on removing cat vomit. It's an annoyance that, unfortunately, comes with the territory of owning an older cat.
