Burp Your Newborn Baby
Burp Your Newborn Baby

Burping a newborn can be difficult for some people. They might not know how, or are scared they will hurt the baby. There are different methods. The best way to burp a baby will be discussed in this article, and reasons will be given to why the other methods are not the best choice.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hold a baby straight and upright. Be sure to support the head.

  2. Step 2

Rest the baby's head on your shoulder. It's best to place a burp cloth or clean cloth diaper on your shoulder in the event of spit up.

  3. Step 3

Sometimes the baby will burp immediately but if not gently rubbing and patting the baby's back will help.

  4. Step 4

Sometimes a baby just simply doesn't need to burp. If three minutes and have went by without a burp this is probably the case.

  5. Step 5

Some people lay a baby over the lap to burp them, but this can increase the chances of milk coming up as well.
Trying to burp a baby in a sitting position can fold the stomach making it much more difficult for a baby to burp.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to pat and rub gently. There is no need to force a burp.
