Go Green for Earth Day
Go Green for Earth Day

Earth Day is a day set aside to become aware of our treatment of earth. From what I can tell living green is basically avoiding polluting out environment and going back to nature as much as possible.

With this in mind the going back to the basics sounds like a good idea. The homestead movement means to go back to nature. Grow our own food or buy locally from natural sources, and living a more simple life.

Technology is wonderful. It is fun and helpful, but we also pay a price for the pollution and other consequences from it.

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You'll Need:

  • A willingness to change ourselves.
  1. Step 1

    ASK OURSELVES
Do we need all these trinkets? Do we need all the cell phones? Do we need all the TVs’?
This is purely a personal question. Each person or family has to make the choices. All the plastic and containers pollute and add up fast.

  2. Step 2

    GROW OUR OWN FOOD
This is an excellent way to go green. Big agriculture uses all kinds of chemicals and pesticides on the crops. Not counting a lot of machinery to move and process the crops. Every person could grow their own food and learn how to process it themselves. Such as canning and drying and freezing. The containers from processed foods alone fill land fills. If a person lives in city they can grow some of their food on patios and also buy from local farmer markets. Buy fresh as much as possible.

  3. Step 3

    COOK MORE FROM SCRATCH
The foods we buy in boxes and off shelves from stores have preservatives and too much sugar and salt. That is one of the reasons why diseases are on the rise. Our society is trained to buy from large companies and save time. But, we pay for that. Making it ourselves at least we know what is in it.

  4. Step 4

    ANOTHER WAY OF LIVING GREEN
Use natural cleaning products. The harsh detergents and chemicals are polluting our streams and food supplies. There are simple inexpensive recipes available

  5. Step 5

    RECYCLE
We have all heard it before. Recycle. If we do use plastic or other products we can recycle. Many years ago sodas were in glass bottles. You could return them get a small amount and they would be cleaned and reused. I think a good idea. Or even better idea is stop drinking them and make your own natural drinks.
Most everything is focused on regular everyday people going about the business of living. But not enough is focused on the corporations that pollute our environment big time. Let us stop blaming regular everyday people and put the blame where it should be.

It is a big step to live green. But a little here and a little there and the next thing we know, we will love it better.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember, you don't have to do it all of a sudden. A little here and there.
  • Start looking into the homestead movement. It is a way to get back to our roots and enjoy nature.
