    West Nile Virus can be quite severe in some cases. West Nile Virus produces symptoms similar to the flu. Symptoms may include fever, headache, chills, neck stiffness, muscle weakness, and loss of appetite. Unfortunately, there is no effective antibiotics to treat West Nile Virus. In extreme cases the patient may be hospitalized for observation until symptoms subside.

    There are some ways to decrease your chances of contracting this illness. First, West Nile is transmitted through infected mosquito' s. Once an infected mosquito bites a human that increases their chances significantly of developing this illness. The only treatment available at this time is supportive therapy and plenty of fluids in case of dehydration.

    There are ways a person can decrease their chances of contracting the West Nile Virus. First, if you live in an area where mosquito are common, it is best to wear an insect repellant at all times. Insect repellant are very effective in reducing the chances of coming in contact with an infected mosquito. In addition, if you have pets make sure you change their water bowl daily, mosquito's are attracted to any place where water accumulates. Many people make the mistake of keeping old tires outside, leaving the possibility of water accumulation followed by mosquito's taking residence inside the water logged tire. Finally, check any plants you may have inside the home. If you water a plant too much the excess water remaining can attract unwanted mosquito's. By taking a few precautions you can reduce the risk of being bitten by an infected mosquito..
