It is very easy and economical to make your own homemade granola. This recipe can take a lot of variation and can be adjusted according to your family's likes. Granola can easily be kept for several months in an airtight container stored in a dark cool place. Granola can be eaten plain, in a bowl with some milk, on top of yogurt or you can use it to make your very own granola bars.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 cups uncooked old fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1 cup grated or shredded dried coconut
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds (other type of seeds or nuts)
  • 1 Tbl. brewer's (nutritional) yeast
  • 1 Tbl. lecithin
  • 1 Tbl. cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup flax seeds
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 Tbl. vanilla
  • 1 cup raisins (or other dried fruit)
  1. Step 1

In a large bowl combine all of the dry ingredients, except for the raisins. Mix well.

  2. Step 2

Add the oil, honey and vanilla then mix well.

  3. Step 3

Transfer to a large casserole dish.

  4. Step 4

Bake at 300-350 for 30 minutes to one hour, stirring about every 15 minutes to make sure the granola is evenly toasted. The time and temperature you use will depend on how "toasty" you want your granola. A higher temperature and longer cooking time will result in a more toasted granola. If you only want it slightly toasted you may want to set your oven to 300. Be sure to check it about every 15 minutes to ensure that it doesn't get over toasted.

  5. Step 5

When your granola has reached your desired "toastiness" remove it from the oven and allow it to cool.

  6. Step 6

Once cooled, add the raisins and mix well.

  7. Step 7

Store in an airtight container in a cool dark place.

  8. Step 8

    Enjoy! Yummy!
