Surgical masks reduce the risk of contracting Swine Flu.
Surgical masks reduce the risk of contracting Swine Flu.

Wearing a surgical mask can help you prevent contracting the Swine Flu, since the disease is transmitted via airborne particles. Learn where to buy surgical masks to wear in crowded public places to help prevent catching Swine Flu.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Swine Flu is transmitted from person to person through airborne particles by coughing or sneezing. What is scary is that a person may be infected with Swine Flu and not even know it - therefore unknowingly infecting other people around them in public. Wearing a face mask can reduce your chances of catching the Swine Flu in a public place.

  2. Step 2

Check your local drug store in the medical supply section for surgical or medical masks.

  3. Step 3

Check home improvement stores such as Home Depot or Lowes. These stores carry dust masks that people wear for sanding or working with drywall.

  4. Step 4

Ask your friends in the health care industry. Nurses, doctor's office staff, hospital staff, or home health care personnel have access to a supply of surgical masks. See if your friends can snag a few masks for you.

  5. Step 5

Ask your dentist office for a face mask. You will notice that the dentist, the dental assistant, and the dental hygienist wear masks for sanitary reasons. If you are there anyway for an appointment, ask for a few face masks.

  6. Step 6

Ask your nail tech at the nail salon. The nail techs often wear dust masks when filing down acrylic nails. If you are having your nails done and see a technician wearing a mask, ask for one.

  7. Step 7

Look online. You can order surgical masks in bulk from medical supply companies. See the resources section below for links to websites that sell these masks.
