Step 1
Consider the waste that your household produces, is there a way to cut down?
Can you choose to bring your own re-usable bags to the grocery store instead of collecting more paper or plastic bags?
Could you opt out of junk mail by submitting a few painless opt-out forms? For more information on opting out of junk mail, go to www.stopwaste.org.
Can you re-use food containers as temporary tupperware, instead of tossing them? Can you recycle empty pickle and olive jars and use them to store loose buttons or as a pencil holder? -
Step 2
Consider your transportation habits. Can you opt to take more public transportation if you live in a big city? Or for local and neighborhood errands, can you take your bike or just walk?
-
Step 3
Consider your household chores. Can you purchase a drying rack and start air drying some of your clothes instead of putting them through another dryer cycle? Can you use cloth paper towels instead of disposable paper towels? Are you able to wait for a full load before running the dishwasher?
-
Step 4
Consider the energy that you and your family use. Can you make a conscious effort to turn off lights that aren't being used? And unplugging electronics and appliances that are not in use?
