Step 1
Don't attempt to make couch cushions firm by yourself if the couch is very valuable or expensive. Use a professional if you are scared you might cause damage.
-
Step 2
Check the frame or base of the couch. The first step in making couch or sofa cushions firmer is to check the foundation the couch. If the frame is weak or if there is little support under the cushions of the couch then it can cause the cushions to sink and give the impression that the couch cushions are not firm. Fix up any problems with the frame and see if that does the trick.
-
Step 3
Add a piece of wood underneath the couch cushions. Sometimes the support for the couch or sofa cushions is not strong enough and the sofa cushions sink in. If so, cut a thin piece of wood that fits under the couch cushions to lay the couch cushions on. This will lift the cushions and make them feel more firm.
-
Step 4
Add new filling to make the couch or sofa cushions firmer. If the cushions are filled with bits of material, foam or balls, you can add additional material or stuffing to make the sofa cushions firmer. The more stuffing, the more firm the couch cushions will be.
-
Step 5
Replace the cushion foam of stuffing with a new piece of foam to make your sofa cushions more firm. Get a new piece of firm foam cut to the size of your cushion and replace the old stuffing. Search online for replaceable cushion foam and you will see there are many choices available.
-
Step 6
Replace couch cushions completely - if you have a couch you really like but you don't like the couch cushions, you can buy new matching cushions with the type of stuffing you desire.
