Step 1
Word of mouth! This is the best way to find your wedding photographer! Ads are okay, but nothing is more to the truth and real than REAL experiences from your friends. You will be able to see the photographer's work, find out how they related with the family, and get an overall image of the photographer. Once you have narrowed it down, here are some questions to think about
-
Step 2
Once you have your photographer, you are going to want to get down to prices. Most all wedding photographers have packages that they offer. Before you meet to discuss this, have in your mind what all you want to be shot. Ceremony only? before ceremony? Reception? All of the above? Most photographers will have packages that run by how many hours you want him/her. Also, if you want engagement pics? Basically, just have an idea of what you want.. if will make things easier when you meet.
-
Step 3
Do not assume that more expensive equipment means better pictures. Most wedding photographers will have at least two cameras with them, each one serves a certain purpose. Remember, I might have a $500 tennis racquet, but without practice, it is worthless. A photographer is going to use the equipment he/she is comfortable with. Remember, if you went on word of mouth, you will already know the quality of the pictures!
-
Step 4
Expect a down payment. This is universal. Any photographer worth their weight in memory cards will ask for a downpayment. This is a way to guarantee them for your wedding. This is a good thing
-
Step 5
Expect digital!
A few years ago, people were wary of digital cameras for their weddings because the quality was not as good as digital. Today, that is not the case. Digital in fact sometimes exceeds film, and the photographer is able to see how the pictues are coming out at that exact time. Less pics are taken because they do not have to account for under and over exposure. Less pics wasted, less money wasted and more good pics taken. -
Step 6
Ask your photographer if you are able to view your proofs online through their website. This is a HUGE benifit.
