After you zip a file using a zip file program, you want to be able to send it. This article will give several options for sending zip files. Zipping a file causes the file size to be smaller. This is ideal when you need to transfer large files to someone. Zip files are also helpful when you have multiple small files that you want to send together in a file folder. Many people have slow Internet connections. Zip files help reduce their file transfer times.

Things You'll Need:

  • Zip file programs such as WinZip or the free zip program 7-Zip
  1. Step 1

Upload your zip file to a file-sharing site like Megaupload. Give the recipient a link where he can download your file. If you password protect your zip file, give the recipient the password.

  2. Step 2

Upload your file directly to the server of the recipient. If you are transferring zip files to a business they may have a server you can save them on. Find out the FTP information to upload your zip files to their server.

  3. Step 3

Send your zip file as an email attachment.

  4. Step 4

Upload your zip files to your personal or business web site and give the recipient a link to the zips. A zip file URL would look something like this:

    http://www.yoursite.com/yourfile.zip

  5. Step 5

Save your zip file to a portable file drive and give it to the recipient.

  6. Step 6

Burn your zip files to a DVD or CD-ROM and give it to the recipient.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't email large zip files. It will tie up the recipient's email server, and may overflow their virtual mailbox.
  • Make sure you don't compress your file into a format the recipient can't open. Zip is a standard compression file type. Rar files can't be unzipped by many zip file programs.
