Find a Pediatrician
Find a Pediatrician

Finding the right Pediatrician can be difficult and overwhelming. But it is essential to find one that you approve of. Here are some tips on how to find just the right pediatrician for your little ones.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First you want to obtain a list of Pediatricians in your area that accept your insurance. You can do this by contacting your insurance company and request a hard copy sent by mail, fax, or email. Or if your insurance company has a website, ask where on the site you can find a list of Pediatricians.

  2. Step 2

Once you have a list of all the Pediatricians that will accept your insurance start picking out a few. You may prefer a male or a female. You may prefer a certain part of town. Or you can pick a few at random if you have no preference.

  3. Step 3

After selecting a few Pediatricians, call their office during business hours. Ask the receptionist if the Pediatrician is accepting any new patients and make sure they accept your insurance. If everything is good from there, arrange a time when you can meet with the Pediatrician to ask questions.

  4. Step 4

After you have made appointments, sit down and make a list of all the questions you want to ask them. There is no such thing as a stupid question, especially when it comes to someone who will be providing medical care for your child(ren). You may want to ask things like how long have they been practicing pediatrics, are they board certified, how many children they see a month, etc.

  5. Step 5

Once you have interviewed the prospective Pediatricians, make a decision. Be sure that you are completely comfortable with the doctor you choose. If you’re not satisfied with any of them, keep searching until you find one that is just right. Don’t just settle for one you’re not happy with. If you’ve found the one you want, let them know so they can expect your child after delivery.
