With all of the cases in Mexico as well as several different cases scattered around the world. Fears are mounting that we may be in for a swine flu pandemic.
In my opinion education is always the best defense and this is what you can do to stay healthy and avoid the swine flu.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The main method of spreading influenza is from coughing or sneezing. So then it stands to reason that good hand washing techniques is also one of the best ways to avoid catching the swine flu.

  2. Step 2

Carry a bottle of alcohol based hand cleaner with you and use it to
wipe down the handles of shopping carts. Be sure to clean your hands after shopping. And avoid touching your face while in public until you've had the chance to clean your hands.

  3. Step 3

Stay healthy and boost your immune system by getting enough sleep, avoiding stress and consuming a healthy diet that contains plenty of antioxidants and vitamins. Check out the resources section of this article for more information and tips on treating the flu.

  4. Step 4

Avoid crowded areas such as shopping malls, restaurants, and movie theaters.

  5. Step 5

Use a tissue when coughing or sneezing and always dispose of it afterwards. Making sure to then clean your hands.

  6. Step 6

Avoid sick people and if your sick then stay home instead of putting others at risk.

  7. Step 7

Avoid close contact with other people such as shaking hands and kissing.

  8. Step 8

If you become ill with flu like symptoms while living in an area that has reported cases of swine flu. It would probably be a good idea to contact your health care provider. They will then be able to go over your symptoms with you and advise your next step.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can't get swine flu from eating pork but you can get it from contact with pigs.
  • Swine flu symptoms are much like that of regular influenza only worse.
  • The swine flu is treated with antiviral drugs which work best if given early after the onset of symptoms.
  • There is no human vaccine for swine flu.
