Getting ready to replace carpet? Are you going to hire a company to replace the carpet for you? Learn how to prepare a room for carpet to replaced to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

The first thing you will want to do to prepare your area to be re-carpeted is to remove any object that are on the flour. If you are unable to move heavy objects before the caret company comes, get it as ready as possible so it will not take much time to clear the space. Call the company you are using a head of time if possible to let them know, they may need to bring special lifting ropes to move the object in question.

  2. Step 2

Get the room clean as possible before the company that is replacing the carpet arrives. Clean ceiling fans, vacuum old carpet, and even wipe of walls that appear dirty. No one wants to get down on a dirty, not to mention that it will save the workers a lot of trouble when replacing carpet by avoiding getting what they are working on dirty. Martial always works best when its clean.

  3. Step 3

If possible, remove the doors from the room so workers will not have trouble getting around them. This will also insure a better fit for your carpet. Workers can do this themselves but doing this yourself will avoid any problems with damaged doors. Most companies do not cover the cost of damaged doors when replacing carpet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ensure the workers a have plenty of room to get to the area or areas that are being re carpeted. Make sure your yard where they will be bringing stuff in is clear of debris. Rooms leading to the area should have a large path. This may mean moving the dining table to the side of the wall or putting chairs in another room.
  • Plan to be home while carpet is being replaced.
  • If planning to paint the room, allow the paint ample enough time to dry completely to avoid excessive scuffing of the walls.
