Putting together a band can be tough and even if you have all the pieces in place, coming up with a band name can be one of the hardeset parts. The fact is, your band name will define you for as long as you are together as a group. In many cases, a band name will give people preconceived notions about you without even hearing your music. This is why it is crucial you select a band name that is representative of the type of music you play and the type of image you want to portray. Below are some tips on how to choose a band name...

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Avoid the "and the" band names - such as "Hootie and the Blowfish" or "Huey Lewis and the News". These "and the" band names are a thing of the past and won't make your band look too hip.

  2. Step 2

One word band names are always cool, especially for hard rock or metal bands. Bands such as Bush, Korn and Live made an immediate statement with their band name.

  3. Step 3

Think of unique band names that may mean something personal to the band. Pearl Jam who was initially going to name their band "Mookie Blaylock" after the basketball player, gained part of their name from Eddie Vedder's great-grandmother "Pearl"
