Losing weight, watching our figures, getting healthy. All watchwords of the 21st Century. Not feeling deprived while we try to get healthier and lose weight may help many of us to stick to a way of eating that is satisfying and moderate.

  1. Step 1

    Mentally divide the portion of sweets into fourths. Try to determine how much of the food to take away that would equal approximately one fourth (1/4) or 25 percent (%) of the total amount.

    Begin removing the food from your plate in small increments until the perceived correct amount is gone. Either put it back into a container or throw it away. If you are in a restaurant, ask for a to go box and then ask them to remove it or to throw it away or wrap it in a napkin and put to the side.

    Use this procedure with all sweets including sweet drinks, candies, pastries, puddings, birthday cake and ice cream. The number of calories saved will be close to if not more than 25 percent which is a significant amount and will contribute to weight loss as well as lowered blood pressure and lowered cholesterol.

    Give your mind and body time to realize that it is not suffering by giving it less than the whole amount started with and no matter how much is started with, there is room for less without much sacrifice or feeling deprived.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember to let your body get used to the idea that this is not a huge sacrifice. Start lower or do it less often if more baby steps are needed and work up to the 25%.
