Things You'll Need:
- Internet connection

Step 1
Many people have complained to me that that SEO companies charge way too much for sometimes very little results. You can do a search for SEO services on any search engine and find thousands of them. So how do you find the right one? First step is knowing what to search for. Many search for "Guaranteed SEO", but i will tell you right now, any SEO that guarantees that they can give you a page one serp on Google or any other search engine watch out for them. They will do as they say, but for some obscure keyword that nobody ever searches for. If they are guaranteeing their service, make sure they can guarantee YOUR keywords. Then there are SEO's out there that will only charge you a modest price and only, I said only if you actually get a good ranking on that keyword. It usually goes like this, if your site gets a top thirty on the search engines, then you pay nothing, but when you get a top twenty you may pay anything between $50.00 - $100.00. And when your site gets a top ten, then you may pay as much as a few hundred dollars. Much better than thousands that others charge.
-
Step 2
So step to is learning your keywords. Some keywords are literally impossible to get even a top 50 on if your site is under a few years old. So what are you supposed to do? Find related keywords to your main keyword. And it is a very good idea to use two and three keyword combinations, as these are easier for a new site to rank on. I strongly suggest a keyword tool. Find good keywords that will bring you targeted visitors from the search engines.

Step 3
Now the last step is to find a SEO company that will only charge you for success, if your site ranks you pay, and make sure they show you in advance how much you will be paying. Paying for rank I believe is going to be the new frontier in Search Engine Optimization. Good luck

on 9/26/2009 I think paying for results is the best way to hire an SEO consultant. Both sides have a clear goal and there wont be any questions about if the goal has been met or not.

on 9/19/2009 Thanks for your comment, how ever I do not believe trust would be a major problem here. The best part of this model is that the customer is given prices that would be charged once a certain position is gained, if desired position is not achieved, then they do not pay. As for the SEO, I guess some would be afraid of this model because they may optimise the site ad it does not achieve, then they do not get paid. But for the customer, no better trust than pay only for results.

on 9/18/2009 I don't believe Pay Per Rank is going to be the new frontier of SEO and it shouldn't be. The reason is the trust problem. In business world, this SEO pricing model can bring some serious problems especially for the SEOs site.
We prefer monthly retainer SEO pricing model.
